Eight of our members (four couples) in four Corvettes met at the Pilot Gas Station on the morning of June 29th to begin an exciting overnight adventure together to celebrate 70 years of Corvette!
The curves of East Tennessee were calling and we just couldn’t resist! The ribbons of road were snakelike, scenic and smooth (with the exception of a few construction zones).
Our stops included the summit at Cumberland Gap National Historical Park where we were able to stand in two states at the same time, The White House of Tennessee our dinner destination, The Riverfront Seafood Company, The Veterans Overlook and Memorial in Bean Station, The Norris Dam and our final dinner stop, Maple Creek Bistro where we all enjoyed the presentation and the taste of their flaming cast iron Kesseri Cheese (in a Greek restaurant, they would have said Opa! when they lit it) before our dinners were served.
The focus of this birthday celebration was our drive – and drive we did – one tunnel, three states, seven mountains, hundreds of miles, thousands of curves and just as many smiles made for an exhilaratingly great time together with friends! Our overnight accommodations at the Hampton Inn in Kingsport were very nice. The staff went out of their way to welcome us and make us feel right at home.
Thanks to Roger and Kathy for leading and a fun trip!!
