• PCC Road Trip Hosted by Les and Kelly Rhoades
2025 Route 66 Mother Road Festival, Springfield IL

Six couples from our corvette club drove to Springfield Illinois, all excited to attend the 2025 Route 66 Mother Road Festival. (Sept. 24-29) We were on a 6-day road trip adventure to see the land of President Lincoln and travel along some of old Route 66.  We saw many sights and attractions: a section of old Route 66, now a rough two-lane brick road, and Silo mural, Sugar Creek Covered Bridge, Route 66 Mother Road Festival weekend events, like the 2000+  Friday night vehicle parade in Springfield, We attended Saturday’s 1100+ car show in downtown Springfield, many museums visited, President Lincoln’s home and neighborhood,  American Giants Museum, lots of Murals in all the small towns, A private tour of the Ace Sign Co. Sign Museum in Springfield, Some of us visited a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home, we paid our respects at the Lincoln’s family Tomb, the newly famous Route 66 Legends Neon Park (at night), eating a corn dog at the Cozy Dog Drive-In, drinking a morning coffee while devouring lots of glazed donuts from Mel-O-Cream Donuts, We drove around Route 66’s notorious Dead Man’s Curve, visited the Pontiac Oakland Auto Museum, and more! All this, while covering just about 156 +/- miles of Old Route 66 in Illinois.

Illinois stops: Mt Olive, Auburn, Chatham, IL, Springfield, New Salem, Williamsville, Lincoln, Atlanta, Bloomington, Normal, Towanda, Lexington, Pontiac, and more.

  • ARRR… IT WAS ABOUT TIME FOR A BLOODY CRUISE, ME MATEYS!!
This drive and dine event was hosted by Roger and Kathy Johnson. Eight PCC Corvettes and sixteen fearless crew set sail through the scenic curves and twisty backroads of Tennessee and Kentucky on a swashbuckling quest for treasure, laughter, and good eats. The destination; The legendary Stolen Coin Oyster Bar & Bistro in Gainesboro—where the only thing stolen was our hearts (and maybe a few French fries).

Before the driver’s meeting, Roger cranked up the speakers and blasted “Birthday” by Paul McCartney—setting the tone for a surprise celebration! Our birthday honorees—Carol Mitchelson (9/9), Jean Burchette (9/10), and Ron Burchette (9/4)—were called up for a spontaneous birthday dance, and let’s just say the moves were as unforgettable as the ride.

Along the way, we passed through the peaceful beauty of Amish country in Kentucky, where horse-drawn buggies and hand-built barns reminded us to slow down and savor the simple things. Just beyond, we encountered tractors and combines plowing under golden cornfields, a living postcard of harvest season in full swing. It was a reminder that even in the midst of our pirate antics, the land was quietly working its magic.

The roads were stunning—with one wild exception. TN-83, which had been hit by a hailstorm just two days prior, surprised us with fallen leaves, scattered branches, and the occasional downed tree lining the roadside. It added a dash of unexpected adventure to our cruise, and our Corvettes handled it like champs.

Once we arrived at The Stolen Coin, the service and food were out of this world—every dish a treasure, every smile genuine. The oysters were fresh, the atmosphere was warm, and the laughter was loud. Many who made the trip vowed to return soon… and we believe them!

Our convoy carved through the countryside like ships in full sail, chasing ghost stories, roadside oddities, and the promise of pirate loot. No one walked the plank—but we did end the day with a sweet scoop of victory at The Lazy Cow in Cookeville. Ice cream never tasted so good after a day of curves and camaraderie!

Thanks to everyone who joined the adventure and brought the spirit (and the pirate hats). Until next time, keep your compass pointed toward fun and your fiberglass polished for the next great escape!

  • John and Reggie Leppien hosted a Tennessee back roads pop-up ride for club members on Wednesday September 3rd, 2025. The group of four Corvettes faithfully followed John and Reggie over rolling hills and sweeping corners, as they found their way down the road from Crossville to Westel. Passing the home of the new Flatrock Motorsports Park, the journey continued north to the town of Wartburg.  The caravan continued west to Clarkrange on what I can only imagine was following a wonderful section of Tennessee Route-68. The lunch stop on this journey was at Embers Grill in Clarkrange.

  • On September 1st, 2025, we had a wonderful turnout from club members to attend the 10th Annual Labor Day Cruise-in at the Netherland Church of Christ. The club ride to the show was organized by Les and Kelly Rhoades. We had eight Corvettes and fifteen club members in attendance. The morning started out a little bit overcast with some glimpses of blue skies, which gave us hope for the day.  Unfortunately, shortly after leaving our stating point on the drive from Monterey to Rickman, we drove into some light rain. Luckly, the last few miles of the drive was dry, so the cars had enough time to mostly dry off. A minor meteorological event met with positive attitudes. The show parking lot was packed with classic cars and trucks, along with some more modern Corvette horsepower. Our ears were treated to some great authentic bluegrass music from the band, “Conspiracy to Kill a Possum”. A big thanks to Gary and Jan Edwards for bringing some snacks to share. Jan’s Charcuterie board which was covered with crackers, sausage and cheese and apple slices was a big hit. Also, several of the members enjoyed a free hotdog and soda offered by the church. The church members treat everyone with gracious respect and even came over to our group and thanked us for attending the show. After the show, we drove to the town Livingston for lunch at The Steel Coop restaurant.
