  • May 8th 2019 Plateau Corvette Club members toured the Brushy Mountain State Prison in Petros, Tennessee.

The End of the Line. The “damnation of many an evil man and the salvation of a humble few.” Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary (1896-2009) was a maximum-security prison that housed some of the most notorious criminals in the country. The walls of its cells are covered with the markings of those who were destined to spend most, if not all, of their lives within the walls. Three walls and a vertical cliff surround the cell blocks. While some tried, no-one was ever successful in escaping those confines.
The Plateau Corvette Club caravaned from Crossville to the prison on a beautiful, sunny Tennessee day. Our members enjoyed an informative and entertaining 2-hour tour of the prison and its facilities. Stories of prison life were shared in a straight-forward and sometimes down-right frightening perspective by our guide, Bill Harvey. Bill spent 31 years as a guard at the prison and was an encyclopedia of facts about its history.
At the end of the tour, we were served some of the best food around at the Warden’s Table Restaurant. Barbecued ribs, a variety of sandwiches, loaded potatoes with pulled pork and nachos were just some of the excellent dishes enjoyed by our members. Guided tours and self-guided tours are available. For the more adventurous, a paranormal tour allows for experiencing the spectral presence of some who were imprisoned there.

Thanks to Phil and Jeannine Z for a great trip.

Thanks to all for the great pictures
