SATURDAY, MAY 13TH, 2023 Plateau Corvette Club members headed to the Nashville Superspeedway to drive their “Vettes” on the track! They were able to drive three laps around the track behind a pace car. Proceeds will benefit The Nashville Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities and Easter Seals. After their drive they traveled to Sammy B’s in Lebanon for lunch before hitting the curves to head back home.
The Sun did not shine, it was too wet to play. We didn’t let that stop us that nasty, wet day!
It was Monday, May 8th, the date that we’d set – Trooper Island adventure was calling – we jumped in the Corvette!
We headed out, down the road, the sky cloudy and grey enroute to meet our friends, who wanted to get out and play!!
We arrived at the meeting place with many already there, including Trooper Jonathan and his dog, who looked like a bear!!
16 Corvettes (17 counting KSP Trooper Jonathan) and 1 steel car braved the elements to get out for the day.
When they arrived at Trooper Island they got to the boat ramp and the ferry awaited for the ride to the island. Everyone parked their cars and boarded ready for transport across the lake.
After a delicious lunch Jonathan gave a really nice talk about the history of Trooper Island and what they do there. He answered questions and explained all about the program and how it helps underprivileged children of Kentucky. Then he gave a guided tour of the Island, which was really nice. They saw the inside of the Chapel and the inside of one of the boys cabins (holds 22 boys) and then they toured the camp counselor’s cabins too.
After their visit off they went – cruising the curves and seeing the beautiful Tennessee Countryside! It was a perfect day with friends that ended, of course, with Ice Cream!
May 2nd, Plateau Corvette Club members enjoyed a beautiful day for a Corvette Cruise! They met under sunny skies in Cookeville and headed out to Campione’s Taste of Chicago in Goodlettsville, Tennessee in a “parade” of 13 Corvettes carrying 25 of our members and their guests. On the way there they saw some pretty quirky sights on the side of the road – a chopped school bus, a Giant Muffler Man – (Route 66 style), but they all thoroughly enjoyed the Route that Roger mapped out for them. It was the perfect blend of twisties, big sweeping curves and the beautiful hills and valleys that Tennessee is famous for. Once they got to Campione’s they enjoyed the true “taste of Chicago” – some members had an Italian Beef sandwich and some of them experienced a true “Chicago Dog” complete with bright neon green Chicago relish and dill pickle! On their way back they stopped at Tennessee’s Historic Rock Castle – built from 1784 – 1796 in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Then ended the day with Ice Cream at Cream City in Cookeville, where they shared smiles, laughter and great memories of another perfect day together, good times and good friends!
Tuesday May 2nd several Plateau Corvette Club members took a scenic drive to Goodlettsville TN for lunch at Campiones Taste of Chicago for some delicious Italian food.
Saturday April 22 several Plateau Corvette Club members joined other classic car enthusiasts for the first Crossville Downtown Cruise In of 2023. The weather was great and the crowds large as everyone came to town to see all the classic cars on display.
Monday, April 17th was a beautiful, sunny day – perfect day for a Plateau Corvette Club cruise! Don & Dee led a group of our members along beautiful backroads to Lynchburg, Jack Daniels Distillery and grounds. While there, they enjoyed sampling in the “Angel’s Share” tour. After concluding their visit to Jack Daniels, the group headed to Miss Mary Bobo’s for a phenomenal lunch! The weather was perfect and the drive was smooth and curvy – just a wonderful day all around! A BIG THANK YOU to Laurie and Rhonda for sharing their photos for all to enjoy!
April 20th Plateau Corvette Club members took a drive to Bell Buckle, great crew, awesome roads, tasty food and ice-cream. Always nice to get together and spend time with other club members. Oh, did I mention the food was extremely tasty!!! Also the Ice Cream on the way home is a perfect ending to the day!!
Friday April 14 2023, 20 Plateau Corvette Club Members escorted the MS Senior Tennessee Contestant from their hotel to their banquet location in Fairfield Glade, The parade of Corvettes were led by the Cumberland County Sheriff Department up Peavine Road to the Fairfield Glade Convention Center. The Ladies were greeted by Marines who then escorted them to the banquet room. Saturday Night a new MS Senior Tennessee for 2023 was crowned at the Palace Theater in downtown Crossville.
Thank You to all the Volunteer Drivers and those who took the pictures
Plateau Corvette Clube members took a “Pop up Flash Ride” to Williamsburg, Kentucky and Torres Mexican Steakhouse hosted by Jerry and Marsha. At the driver’s meeting, Jerry told us that he picked the roads with the “most curves he could find” and we can tell you he wasn’t lying! Most of us drove with tops down (convertibles) or tops off (coupes) to take full advantage of the beautiful weather and the sunshine. After an hour and a half of cruisin’ through the curves, hills and switchbacks, we stopped for a break at the Big Southfork Overlook – it was fantastic! The restaurant was top notch and the food was delicious. Great choice if you are in the area and need a nice place to eat!
A BIG THANKS to Jerry & Marsha for putting this together and heading it up! Thanks to Les & Kelly for sharing their pictures for all to enjoy and thanks to Kathy for her pics too!
On Saturday, April 8th, a small group of Plateau Corvette Club Members braved the rain and cool temps to gather at the Brass Lantern to participate in the Sgt. Chris Jenkins Memorial Benefit Ride. Ten members in 5 Corvettes made the journey from Crossville to Louden Municipal Park to register and stage for the ride to Smokey Mountain Harley Davidson.
When we arrived at the Park we were greeted with cheers and applause for showing up with the Corvettes. There was a very large presence of Police vehicles from many different departments – Louden County Sheriff, Louden City PD, Maryville PD, Alcoa PD, Oakridge PD and several other departments. The police vehicles were at the head of the group ride and they blocked side streets and traffic lights the entire route from the Park where we began to Smokey Mountain Harley Davidson
Traffic was stopped and people were sitting in their cars on the side of the road (some people even exited their cars while we passed by) to show respect in true Tennessee fashion. There was a band at the Shed (the entertainment venue for Smokey Mountain Harley Davidson) – “GreyBeard” who provided entertainment for several hours during the event.
February 3, 2022 at approximately 8 a.m., K-9 Sgt. Chris Jenkins responded to I-75 at mile marker 74 in the northbound lanes near the Tennessee River bridge to the report of debris in the roadway. As Sgt. Jenkins was removing the debris from the roadway, he was struck by a semi-truck. Sgt. Jenkins succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
Thanks to Roger and Kathy for leading and the photos.
